FAQ

Can homeopathy do something for hot flushes? I have stopped taking HRT.
Hot flushes are a frequent occurrence during the menopause or after giving up HRT. There are some excellent remedies to help with this.

I am coming off anti-depressants. If I start homeopathic treatment will I have to be on homeopathic medicine forever?
No. Homeopathic remedies are non-addictive and our aim is to balance mind, body and spirit and to give remedies in the smallest dosage for a minimum duration.

Can very young babies have homeopathic remedies, for example for a high temperature?
Babies respond very well to homeopathic treatment and it is also safe. A fever is not an illness but a sign that the body is reacting to something and usually there are other noticeable changes or symptoms. Remedies bring relief often to the accompanying symptoms before the temperature comes down. However, if a high temperature persists or if there are other signs such as neck stiffness or severe drowsiness it is important to seek medical help immediately.

How can homeopathic remedies work? After all, there is frequently no chemical trace of the original substance left.
There is abundant proof that the remedies do work, but no one has yet discovered exactly why. The answer may lie in the field of physics, as it is claimed that dilution combined with shaking can imprint characteristics of the original substance onto the water in which it is diluted.

I have eczema and asthma and am taking quite a lot of medication. Sometimes I have to use steroid creams. Can I come off them with homeopathy?
This depends on your response to the treatment. Practice has shown, that when patients stop using steroid creams, initially the skin condition gets worse. It is best to reduce steroid creams very gradually in parallel with treatment. Some homeopaths prefer to start treatment only after the patient has stopped using steroid creams for about three weeks.
Many patients are able to reduce the medication for their asthma during treatment. But this needs to be discussed with the doctor. Generally however, asthma and eczema respond well to homeopathic treatment.

Will the remedy still work if I drink coffee?
It is best to take the remedy into a clean mouth, half an hour before or after eating, drinking or smoking.
Coffee, mint and other strong flavours are claimed to antidote homeopathic remedies. However, research has shown that they still work, but more slowly.

How long does treatment take?
This depends on how long you had the illness and how you respond to treatment.
Experience shows that the longer someone has a condition the longer treatment lasts.

Which conditions do you frequently treat?
There are a number of complaints that patients want help with. Many patients have symptoms that in conventional medicine cannot be diagnosed or for which there is no disease label – for example constant tiredness, aches and pains that come and go, or simply feeling ‘out of sorts’. I frequently treat asthma, eczema, menstrual or menopausal complaints (PMT, heavy or painful periods, hot flushes, feeling bloated etc.), infertility, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Depression and/ or anxiety are very common too. I often treat pregnant women, especially for nausea. Then there are the children with recurring colds, tonsillitis or ear problems.

Yes, tonsillitis responds well to homeopathic treatment. There are remedies for the acute phase but it is best to have constitutional treatment in between bouts, so that the tendency to get tonsillitis can be reduced.

What about hay fever? Can homeopathy stop it?
It can reduce the tendency to hay fever, providing you start constitutional treatment before the hay fever season starts, between November and January. Even after one course of treatment patients experience a reduction of the acute symptoms. Generally it takes at least two seasons to clear completely. However, there are effective remedies to reduce the symptoms such as watery, itchy, burning eyes or nose.

With homeopathic treatment we would prescribe a constitutional remedy that fits your symptom picture, including mental and emotional. This usually improves energy levels too. However, you would need to discuss your prescribed medicine regime with your neurologist or GP.
